Shannon Beador of RHOC has had Fat freezing on her upper arm

Shannon Beador of RHOC has had fat freezing on her upper arms – an area she claims is very hard for women over 50 to tone or lose weight from. We have been exposed to her past weight gains and weight loss- and she was one celebrity housewife who wasn’t afraid to rock around in her Spanx in front of the camera, even grabbing onto her fat stomach and complain to her PT about her terrible emotional state and her subsequent ‘comfort eating and stress eating’ habits. All of which seemed to stem from her terrible relationship with her cheating husband.

As this news hit the stand there was immediate backlash from a so-called celebrity trainer who said she should be ‘lifting weights instead of getting fat frozen away’. The trainer Charlene Ciardiello also claimed that fat freezing was lazy and taking the easy way out. This type of personal opinion infuriates me beyond belief.

When I consider the reality of my life as a busy working mum versus a PT who’s whole day revolves around their body and fitness, I challenge them to walk in my shoes. I would love to have 7 extra hours per day to be thinking about my weight loss, my exercise program and what healthy food to cook for dinner. My mornings instead – are chaos with kids, breakfast, school bags, lunches and refereeing (the usual morning argument) and getting myself ready for work. The occasion walks or jogs before they get up occurs, but this is squeezed in beside everything else. The resolve I had yesterday to exercise every day and cook and eat the perfect diet 365 days, got washed out in the second load of washing I did this morning before I got ready and left for school drop off and work.

For many years I have watched the Real Housewives of all the places and I am quite confident that Shannon is not the only one who has had fat freezing. For all of these women to have flat stomachs are totally unrealists – chances are they have denied having any type of surgery because fat freezing is not surgery as such. Because there are no needles or blood or anesthetic essentially it is not surgery. I just love Shannon’s ability to be real. She is probably the most real of all the housewives in that respect.

These comment by so-called experts do nothing to empower or encourage women. Instead, it encourages further self-criticism and negative self-image and as if society doesn’t create enough in us. If we aren’t size 6 if we don’t have perfect white straight teeth if we don’t have perky boobs. If Charlene really wants to support and help women is this really the angle to take? Charlene Ciardiello appears to have had Botox in her perfectly smooth forehead and clearly dyes her hair blonde. I ask what is the difference between changing your hair color to fit in/feel beautiful versus having fat freezing. I believe that the moment we change our natural state (shave under our arms, or wear the latest fashion piece) we are all trying to achieve our own version of beauty. So is Shannon Beador wrong for trying to feel beautiful and using fat freezing to achieve this, when Charlene uses hair dye and Botox, I think not. We all have our own version of beautiful and no-one has the right to tell me what my version should be.
